ROCK on Wednesdays (permission slip for new attendees)
What is ROCK?
ROCK stands for Radically Outrageous Christian Kids. We are radical because we don't conform to this world, but to Christ. We are outrageous in our fun, energy, and devotion to God and one another. We are Christians; we follow Christ and His Word alone. And we are kids (some just older than others). This ministry is designed to meet the developmental level—and energy level—of our fifth and sixth graders.
Our mission is to develop committed Christ followers who are growing in their knowledge of God and His Word, learning how to apply His truth to their lives, growing to be more and more like Christ, and impacting their world for His glory. In order to achieve this mission, we follow the three Cs of celebrating, connecting, and contributing.
Celebrate (Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm)
We gather to celebrate the amazing God we have through music and games each Wednesday (September through May) from after school until 5:00 pm. During this midweek time, we share a snack, play, worship through music, discover Biblical truth as a large group, and apply this truth in small groups. There is transportation from school.
We also celebrate through fellowship and fun at our monthly events, such as laser tag, paintball, survivor night, and scavenger hunts. These events provide a perfect opportunity to invite our unchurched friends to a fun and safe environment in which they can witness our love for God and His people.
Our fifth and sixth graders are also encouraged to worship and celebrate God corporately each Sunday morning at 11:00 am.
Connect (Sundays, 9:15 – 10:10 am)
Each Sunday morning, from 9:15 – 10:10 am, we meet to connect with God and one another. We dig deep into God's Word, discovering what it means and looks like in our lives as fifth and sixth graders. Small groups allow us to talk through the Word for the week, figure out how to live it, and get to know one another on a deeper level.
Each month we serve God by serving His people. There are a variety of opportunities to serve, each of which allows us to discover and use the gifts God has given us. We partner with Hosanna Industries to help build houses for those in need, feed meals to the homeless at the Salvation Army and Shepherd's Heart in Pittsburgh, volunteer at the World Vision warehouse, cook for and visit patients in nursing homes, and much more. We discover the joy of sharing Christ through our service with a needy world.
