Our Elders

The mission of the elders at Four Mile Church is to oversee the growth and health of Christ’s church in such a way that God is glorified, His kingdom is advanced, and our mission fulfilled.

The word ‘Session’ is used in Presbyterian polity to refer to elders who are currently serving. Elders are elected by the congregation they serve. A typical term of service is 3 year. However exceptions are made and the congregation and elders are asked to review and affirm each elder’s leadership role annually.

Elders provide overall spiritual leadership to the church community by:

  • Modeling full devotion
  • Approving church wide initiatives & strategic plans
  • Selecting and Holding Accountable Senior Staff
  • Approving annual budgets
  • Setting Policies when needed
  • Guarding church health
  • Evaluating overall mission and ministry effectiveness

All these tasks are undertaken in a spirit of prayer and humble service.

The Bible defines an Elder in Titus 1:5-9:
5 The reason I left you in Crete was to set in order the remaining matters and to appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who cannot be charged with dissipation or rebellion. 7 For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain. 8 Instead he must be hospitable, devoted to what is good, sensible, upright, devout, and self-controlled. 9 He must hold firmly to the faithful message as it has been taught, so that he will be able to give exhortation in such healthy teaching and correct those who speak against it.

The Elders at Four Mile Church are always available to talk, pray, provide counsel and answer questions.  Please feel free to talk with an Elder anytime you see them or you may contact them through the church office or member directory.
